Well, here it is, my new theme.
It still has a few wrinkles in it but I was ready for something new. This is a learning experience for me as this is the first theme I have designed. There are some things I like about this theme and some things I do not.
Over the course of the month of September I will make a few more modifications and either keep it or create something different.
The main goal I had in mind with the new theme was to get away from the limitations of my previous narrow theme. sometimes I had images in my posts that just needed a little bit more room, this theme allows for that.
I also wanted to try out using rounded corners with CSS rather than images and javascript. The rounded corners you see on this site are 100% CSS based.
So, take a look around and leave some constructive criticism in the comments.

I’m always slow to accept change, but I feel your pain on the width restrictions as that motivated me a lot on ours. The footer additions are nice.
I think i just knocked the last few kinks out of the system. I need to fool around a bit more with some of the padding settings but I think all of the major bugs are out.
I’m going to stick with my previous comments. The bright red is just too much on the eyes. The footer doesn’t make any sense. Green links on a red background?
This looks like a step backwards more than anything else.
Where are you seeing green? Are you using an LCD? I have known some LCDs to mess up colors real bad. My friend has one where yellow comes out as orange and looks like it it popping right out of the screen at you!
Does the black look better?
It’s still a faint green. I have a higher end LCD, so it’s not the monitor.
I miss the soldier avatar thing.
The main thing that’s missing is the comment count on the home page. I like to scroll down the home page and if I see there are comments, if there are I click on the permalink to read them. I’ll be happy to send you the code to add them back in.
The footer is nice.
I personally like things nice and clean, the new theme is a bit loud for my taste, but it’s a welcome change nontheless.
There’s also a glaring ommission of a link to The Plugg on the single pages :-)
I’m going to add the cartoon back in inside one of the adblocks. It will point to my old hmtk software.
Yes, I will be adding the comment count code back to the main page, I liked it too.
Diggin’ the new theme, Steve!
Wow, steve, loving the new theme. It’s definitely a LOT different but I think in a good way. It’s certainly nice to have more room isn’t it? Plus, you gave me an idea on how to keep testing out auction ads so thanks!
Actually just noticed one thing that could IMO be improved… the huge number of categories is almost overwhelming. I’m not sure if you could combine some of those or not but there’s a ton of them and I’m not sure there’s any benefit to having that many.
Yes, I do need to trim some of them down!
I like how you widened your blog… :) now it is very easy to read. For some reasons, I prefer the previous color theme though (just personal preference) :P
Wow, I have to say I really like the new look! Very stylized, very distinctive. I already miss the little cartoon you had in the corner, though, of the guy rolling the dice while playing an RPG. Beyond that, I like it, I think this is a nice step forward!
