I got a canned email from MyBlogLog telling me that I only have a few days left on my service and that I have to renew if I want to keep my historical data and tracking going forward. This got me to thinking...
I have never really liked MyblogLog all that much. The tracking data it provides is so-so and easily replaced by so many FREE tracking solutions that I also use.
The one thing that got me interested in paying for their service is the fact that they track AdSense clicks. I used this data in the past to try to audit Google's reporting. After seeing a large discrepancy I dropped AdSense for a few months. I added them back in and everything seems to be working fine again.
Right now they are saying I need to pay up or lose access to my historical data and this I have a problem with. The way I see it I have already paid for this historical data when i paid for my one year of tracking service last year. Just because I choose not to re-up with them should not mean that I lose access to data that I have already paid for. I can understand them cutting me back to the limited account format that my other blogs use (do you think I would pay $20 per blog for their service?) but why should I lose access to historical data?
I'm not even sure what the original intent of the MyBloglog service was. Was it meant to drive traffic? Generate new readers? What was it supposed to do?
I no longer know and I no longer care. Once I get a free minute I will be removing their tracking code from my various sites and be done with them.

I never paid for stats, I dont really use myblog log much now… I thought it was great when it first came out, but the novelty wore off… I stopped leaving my avatar on sites a while back… I tired of the spam messages I was receiving etc…. and there are more splogs and spam sites than blogs listed in there these days…
I noticed the same thing. I never noticed a change in readership on any of my sites and I only ever paid for the service on this one.
The information they provide is easily duplicated with other stat trackers and there is no sense of community on MyBlogLog, unless you count spammers.
I probably won’t renew either. I do look at the stats since it’s quicker than going to my Google analytics but since I stopped thinking about making money from my blog my traffic isn’t that big a deal. Not that I don’t want readers but driving them to my site isn’t my deal.
I don’t even look at the stats anymore. I tried to pull a copy of my 12 month history and the system just sat there looking at me.
It was LOL time for me when I found out they are charging what others are giving for free. Maybe they thought new bloggers wouldn’t know about other services and get some cash from them.
Anyways, I like that they can track AdSense clicks. But I’m not sure how accurate MyBlogLog is concerning that. What are your experiences with the accuracy of their AdSense clicks measurements?
I ran an article about that few months back. for the longest time they were just about spot-on and then, overnight, the numbers on the Google end dropped hard. That was when I dumped AdSense for a few months.
I only paid for their service because they were tracking the AdSense clicks.
Yes, I had the same experience with their tracking as well.
Now they tracker really lost on weight, if it can’t measure AdSense clicks, then it’s not worth paying for it anymore.
Thanks for the information dude.
Don’t renew it is useless. Mybloglog sucks so bad and their service is pretty horrible. I would recommend go somewhere else to blog! Also, putting adsense in your blog isn’t a great idea if you blog isn’t really special or unique.
