Married Twins, truth or advocacy?
The Internet is currently buzzing with a story of twins in Britain who met and married, only to be seperated by a judge. This story was passed around and no confirmation is forthcoming as to the validity of the story. Now comes the big question:
The details on the story state that two people (adopted) met later in life, fell in love and got married, only to have their marriage annulled by a judge.
The story is being spread by a Lord David Alton. This same Lord David Alton is currently pressing for the laws to be changed to allow for adopted children to have more rights in finding out who their parents are.
So I ask you, is this a true story being passed around or a clever anecdote designed to help him pass a law?

Interesting story. It could be truth or it could be a smart move from him to get what he wants. It wouldn’t be the first time someone tried to manipulate people that way.
Either way, it’s a good marketing technique – he has attention, now he only needs to do something with it.
What about birthdays? Would they not have thought it strange that they both share the same birthday and birth time?
If they have exact informations about that, I guess yes. When they figured out it was same hospital and same day, they would investigate further. But I don’t know do they have the same informations, because orphanages tend to change them or keep them confidential.
That’s just it, thee is no further information available about this “couple”. That is why I think this whole story was made up.
Aha, there you go. So the Lord David Alton there is just a good marketer. And I bet he loves Machiavelli’s teachings ;)
My b.s. detector tells me there are too many loose ends unaccounted for: (1) a politician with an agenda, (2)the fact that the two would have to be old enough to be of marriageible age in the UK (how long has successful invitro fertilization really been around there?), (3) the fact that the birth mother GAVE THEM UP for adoption after going through a very expensive procedure that usually requires multiple tries, (4)the likelihood that they not only met later, didn’t realize they were twins (hello? no family resemblance, or were they the result of two different sperm donors, like a cat that can be inseminated by different males?)and finally, their marriage & miraculous revelation that they were twins.
Certainly, if Lord Whatishoozit expects us to believe this frankly preposterous-sounding tale, the judge who performed the annulment can surely be persuaded to sign an affidavit without revealing the names of the tragic star-crossed twin lovers.
Color me skeptical :o
