I must be real popular on the social bookmarking/news site I used to use because I recently encountered a clone of myself! Yes, someone on Digg is using my avatar!
Though I do not own the image I used to create my avatar, I have been using it all over the net and it is not a common image. Not only that but it is a crop from a much larger image and it is clear this person just took my avatar and used it.
What's real funny is that he has been a Digg user for a few days longer then I!
I'm not sure how to take this...
What do you kind readers think I should do about this?

I dunno. I’ve wondered about this issue myself, especially as I created my own avatar. I did a search on “Ms. Q” and found someone has this user name in Yahoo. Unless you have a trademark or some type of protection, I am not sure what you can do except ask the other person to use another avatar.
Since it’s clear that the person has copied yours, it may be pointless to even ask them to stop.
I’m not sure why I would want to use someone else’s avatar unless I wanted to somehow coast on another’s reputation or even hide behind another’s reputation.
Does anyone out there know how you go about owning your avatar?
To return to your question - I would politely ask the other person to stop using the avatar. Then you can decide on the next course of action depending on the response.
Awww.. you have your first groupie Steve!
Steve, maybe she is one of your admirers.
Imitation is the bett for of flattery
If this is custom art, ask them to change it. If they don’t not much you can do other than if you have a copyright.
The image is owned by Centurion Training Group. If you click on the big image above you will go tho their web store where you can buy things to support them.
As long as your clone doesn’t use a user name that’s similar to your user name, why worry about it?
Since he’s been registered at digg longer than you..you’re obviously the clone. :p
I’ve been thinking of changing my avatar to my Mii.
Interestingly enough this guy has been befriended by my arch nemesis Kevin Rose!!!
:) Steve, You may wanna check again. I don’t see him befriended by Kevin Rose.
Ah… I was looking at the wrong list. Thanks.
Steve,
Have you considered that “Richard Bagshaw” is actual you, but just another personality?! This happens in movies all the time. Things usually get pretty violent with one of you winning out over the other. Don’t let “Richard” read this in case he wins, but I’m rooting for you.
Sounds like I better watch my back, huh?
Unfortunate really. I have used the name Manthem for quite sometime now and recently Burger King introduced a new commercial titled ‘Manthem.’
Now I sometimes have trouble registering for new sites because the name is already taken and I never had that problem before. Frustrating more than anything.
