Elves

The Elves are an ancient race of refuges. It is said that in a time long since past elves ruled the world. They had magics that could raise and lower entire mountain chains as well as provide for every need of their people. As a race they are somewhat tired, fearing that at any moment their small communities will be over run by the more numerous races until they too fade into history.

Notes:
  • Immunity to Clerical spells: Elves have a 90% resistance to all clerical spells along with the usual resistance to sleep and charm-related spells. This even includes spells such as purify food and water.
  • Clerical Note: Elves may never become Clerics or Paladins. They seem to have no connection to the Divine and are greatly distrusted my holy men.
  • The elves have an ancient written and spoken language that has changed greatly since their collapse. It has become a form of 'pidgin elvish' and mixes every known elvish dialect into one 'common elvish' tongue. Because of their new elvish language many old documents discovered from the past elven kingdoms are nearly unreadable and many elves spend their entire lives trying to decpiher these records. All elves also learn the common tongue of the humans near them early on in life.
The Elves view religion in a much different manner then humans or any of the other races for that matter. It is a well-known fact that elves have an unnatural resistance to clerical magic (not druidical or any other magic) and as such no elven clerics (or paladins) exist. Elven druids do exist in small numbers, often working with the Culahn druids.
Elves tend towards the Chaotic and Neutral alignments. They feel that to be bound by too many oaths for such a long-lived race to be ridiculous. Elves feel that they must enjoy their lives as much as possible before they succomb to whatever ailment finaly destroys them and their people.
Elven communities exist in most human settlements and major cities. Strangely enough all elves are welcome within the small community and offered a degree of comforts normaly reserved to honored house guests of the humans they live near. When dealing with the other races of the world elves tend to look upon them as children (and conquerors) which can often lead to missunderstandings of social standings in a community of mixed races. For the most part elves simply slip into the society of the town they live in as craftsmen and sages.
The elves stand between 5 and 6 feet in height and are of a rather thin build. This build in no way affects their performance as their bodies are simply more streamlined than those of humans. Their ears are pointed and their skin tones range from an alabaster white to a deep ebony black. Some scholars speculate that the different skin tones were once diferent races of elf but after their slide to ruin such prejudices were dropped and interbreeding took over. Their hair colors normaly complement their skin tones and their eyes range the full gamut of colors. Elves reach their age of maturity around 100 and their are no current records of any elves having ever died of old age, though they have died of injuries and diseases.
The elves are a truly melancholy race. Many of the oldest members spend years in study, trying to find out just what happend to their once great empire. The young see death daily in the eyes of their parents and even though they are the most long-lived of all the races they know that their days are numbered. It is not all sadness and despair though, elves still enjoy the life they are given and some are known to spend their days and nights hosting great feasts and parties for their friends. Elves do enjoy good food and fine drink, though not to the point of gluttony as some of the other races do. They also are a very patient race, for they know that if you wont deal with them according to their terms they need only wait a few decades and they will deal with your successor.
