The Rakan Empire
The Empire, as it is commonly known, is an Iron Age human empire that lies upon the northeastern coast of the western continent. Several islands off of the coast are also part of the empire although they are a recent addition. The most recent is Rygel's island. The Rakan Empire is a parallel to the Roman Empire in its policies and lifestyle.
The Emperor is elected from within the senate except in times of war when the current imperial general will take over the empire and act as emperor.
The Senate is a body of men elected one per city to represent their interests within the empire. The only requirement a city must fulfill to have a senator is a population of 10,000 citizens.
The House of Representatives is another government body where persons are elected on a 1 per 5,000 citizens per city.
All citizens may vote for their representatives and senators and are encouraged to do so. Most laws are the same over the entire empire although military towns follow the military commander and his word is law.
The Rakan Empire is a very free and prosperous empire, it does have its bad apples mixed in, but they are usually weeded out every now and then.
The current year is 2737CR. 0CR was the year that Rakan was crowned the first emperor of Rakan.

The Empire has several coins:
Copper - The copper coin of the empire is called the kopec. Its face bears the bust of many different heroes of the empire.

Gold - The gold coin of the realm is called the crona. Its face bears a relief of the capital building of the city where it was minted.
Platinum - The platinum coin of the realm is called the emperor. Its face bears an image of the emperor and is only minted in Rakan City.
10 Kopec = 1 Legionnaire
10 Legionnaire = 1 Crona
5 Crona = 1 Emperor
All coins are about 1 inch in diameter and weigh 1/10th of a pound
Steel is a recent addition to the empire's armoury and as such many heirloom weapons are made of bronze. Most blacksmiths are able to craft items of either bronze or steel and prefer to work with steel. Bronze items can be fashioned for those on a budget and will generaly be of average quality and cost half as much as a similar steel item
