Brief Overview
The wurld of Maul is a large scale campaign wurld for use with the HackMaster game. The portion currently covered on this website is that of the Empire of Rakan.
The wurld is populated primarily by humans with small populations of demi-humans. Humanoids and dwarves were both relegated to the status of legends and boogiemen, until now. With the recent addition of Rygel's island to the empire it has become more apparent that these creatures may have once walked the wurlds surface and that some of them may still remain. In fact small groups of dwarves have appeared within the empire, though their claim to the advanced architecture that litters the wurld has been refuted.
Monsters have also begun to appear as the empire expands into new lands. The peace and serenity of the past few centuries has begun to shatter as a peaceful and complacent population begins to realize that many of their myths do have a basis in reality.
The pirates who once based their operations on this island told tales of short red devils that lived in the inland forests and of strange creatures that would seek out the occasional drunk and take him to its lair for later consumption.
After the Pirate wars ended Rygel's island became a new land ripe for settling by ambitious men. Many of these men entered the islands interior and never returned. Others returned with tales of strange little creatures that attacked at night and dragged away men kicking and screaming into the night.
One of the most notable finds was near Rad when quarrymen discovered an ancient complex underground. The halls were long silent and abandoned and a great plume of dust broke forth from the rock when the first pick pierced the sealed vault. A thorough investigation of the vault revealed nothing more then perfect stonework and expert engineering skills. The vault eventually became part of the temple of Nazan in Port West.
Rygel's island now lies as the wildest part of the empire, ripe for discovery and adventure. Do you dare explore this untamed land to discover it's mysteries? This land awaits those who are strong of body and mind, for only the strongest pioneers and explorers can withstand what lies in the deep and unexplored interior of Rygel's island…
Gaming in the wurld of Maul is more exploratory then conquest. There is no known impending war and the wurld tends towards low magic. Humanoids are very rare within the settled borders of the Empire but there are always exceptions.
