F.A.Q.

Q) What is HMTK?

A) HMTK is a software implementation of the character generation method part of the HackMaster RPG.

Q) What do I need to run HMTK?

A) HMTK will run on any PC with Windows 95 or higher. It will also run under WINE but needs to be run in desktop mode. If you do not run it in desktop mode you will dinf that the notification windows appear behind the current window.

Q) What else does HMTK do?

A) In addition to the character generation features of HMTK there are also two "GM" features included with the program. One is for determining the results of a critical hit and the other is for awarding Honor.

Q) Why do my files save wrong?

A) Due to a strange quirk in some versions of windows, the file filter in the Save dialog is ignored. In these cases just be sure to use the full filename (with extension) when saving. HMTK will save in the proper format (as specified in the file filter) even though windows may not attach the correct file extension.

Q) What is wxHMTK?

A) wxHMTK is a code port to the wxWidgets system. The idea is to write once and then compile for different platforms. The existing HMTK code base is heavily windows dependant (system calls and the like) and I'm working on moving the code over. wxHMTK also has a few other benefits such as a tree view of your character and a viewable dice log that lets you know about all rolls as they are made.
