MyBlogLog adds “auto-join” to communities
I just received a surprising email from MyBlogLog:
Hi HMTKSteve!
Part of what makes MyBlogLog so special is our ability to automatically add you to communities in which you have shown a repeated interest. We have just added you to the following communities:
1) MathPoints
http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/mathpoints/
2) Untwisted Vortex
http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/unvort/
3) Manthem.net
http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/Manthem/
4) SiteLogic Web Development
http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/Site_Logic/
Bonus -- The "Hot in My Communities" box on your My Home page will keep getting better and better with each community you join.
Note: If you decide one or more of these communities is not for you, simply visit that community's page on MyBlogLog and click the "Leave Community" button.
Rock on,
MyBlogLog
It looks like MyBlogLog is tracking where I go on the web (among their member sites) and making a value judgement for me. I'm not so sure I like this!
In your edit profile area you can set the auto join feature from a low of ten page views to a max of 100 page views before joining. Or you can just tell it to never auto-join you! I think I will keep it at ten for now and see how it goes.

Yeah, I got that auto-add this morning as well for a few communities. I’m sure they’re tracking us since their widget displays we were on those sites.
I’d have to say that I don’t really care for that. Now someone’s community member numbers can be inflated rather than actuals from people who decided to join. So it throws that number right out the window.
Well, you can turn it off!
I wonder how many people wil not realize they have this feature until all the porn blogs show up in their communities!
I personally found this very annoying. I think they should have just alerted users that there is this new feature, rather stuffing it down our throats.
Plus it takes too many clicks to un-join communities.
I’ve set it to Never now.
It says something about a web company when all new features are on by default rather than allowing you to opt-in by choice.
I thought about that too, but in the end they were right, I did visit those sites a lot.
Some sites I have do not have the widget on the blog. Would have joined them anyway.
Works for me right now. Maybe I’ll change my mind later.
This feature was there when I signed up for MyBlogLog. It’s defaulted at ten.
Ya, I think it has been there when I first joined (in Feb)… I think they just included this email feature now?
Interesting, I haven’t received that email. Maybe I’m not active enough with MyBlogLog. Then again, I haven’t checked that email a few days hehe :D
