I've joined the do follow club as well. Like some of you I didn't realize the comments defaulted to no follow.

After reading this I've just realised that my blog has No Follow as setting. I thought as Steve did that cos I hadn't marked a No Follolw option that it did follow. Guess I was wrong.

I'm just about to change it.

I agree with you there. I try to only use it when I am linking to Wikipedia, Google and Digg.

Wordpress and a couple of other blogging platforms have the nofollow on by default as you've learned. Initially this is exactly what the nofollow was intended for so I don't really mind it as much. However, this new perversion of using it for any paid links or all external links (wikipedia) really aggravates me.

I thought they always were open! I figured that unless I set a "no follow" option somewhere they would not have the "no follow" tag.

I likewise wasn't aware that I wasn't spreading the link love. I wrote http://www.goingthewongway.com/2007/05/10/no-nofollow/ recently as I discovered it. I also used the Dofollow plugin, which was extremely easy to use.

Now that I think about it, I should have realized that you might not have it since I've commented before, and I never saw the link back. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose.

It's good to see that other people are realizing that they are (sometimes unknowingly) having nofollow links. I'm not exactly sure how, but it'd be nice to inform as many bloggers as possible to have more link love for commenting bloggers.
