I think many democrats, as well as republicans, get depressed when they hear any senator saying we are winning the war in Iraq because it is opposite of what we know based on all the reports and news we all get from other sources. The majority of Americans want to bring the troops home, so when we hear anyone in a position of authority or power to influence a major decision, saying something contrary to the truth or what we consider to be the truth, then we think that person is lying or not being forthright. The depressing part is our troops get killed everyday because of people who lie.

Danny McGuire asked, above: “Any bets that this story gets buried by the main stream media?”
I bet a grand, and please pay up immediately, Danny. As you know, it was the Washington Post that produced the story - or don’t they qualify as mainstream?

McGuire also wrote: “The true weight of this story is what is in the audio recording. That is where Clyburn admits that what is good for America (winning in Iraq) is not good for Democrats.”
I’ll give Danny a chance to win his grand back if he provides an exact quote from the video in which Clyburn said that. Here is a quote from the video that was not contained in the newspaper article:“None of us want to see a bad result in Iraq. If we are going to get in position to yield a good result, I think Democrats want to see that. We love this country. We're as patriotic as anybody else about this. And we have loved ones involved in this issue just like everybody else. I've got family and friends involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, and so I certainly want to see a good result.”

So what problem would a positive report from Petraeus create for Democrats? As Clyburn clearly stated, it would cause a split in the ranks of the Democrats that would make it difficult for them to get congressional approval of a timetable for withdrawal. His recommendation was that Democrats should wait until Petraeus submits his report before they define their position. Does anyone have a problem with that?

This is unbelievable, that someone in a seat of power in our government would actually consciously work AGAINST the country the help run, solely to further their own ambition!! It's not surprising, though, given the Democrats track record of doing everything in their power to screw over the Republicans. It would be nice if these politicians, instead of devoting all their time and energy in hampering their 'enemy', would devote their time and energy in actually HELPING the country that they supposedly love! Instead, they go out of their way to get the soldiers killed, to make the Republicans look bad, just so they can further their own ambition. This is almost akin to treason...

This is something that I have know about all politicians for a long time. And that is that most people in politics (Democrat and Republican) are in it for their own personal power and not for the well being of those they represent. Unfortunately, this means that often times that the American Public gets the shaft, and in this case the troops are the ones most hampered by such blatant diregard for the American Public.
