Investing December 22nd, 2006 by HMTKSteve

I think I'm going to take a break on this "stock market" series of articles.

To be honest, I'm getting quite bored with them.

I'll try and throw up some investing content again in the future but for now I'm done with this line of work.

Investing December 18th, 2006 by HMTKSteve

It is now Day seven and here is where the stocks sit:

1) INTC - 405 shares - $8444.25 purchased 12/11/6 at $20.84 per share. Current price $20.96

The INTC shares went from $20.84 on purchase to $20.96. This is a gain of $0.12 per share which results in a net gain of $48.60.

2) T - 300 shares - $10404 purchased 12/5/6 at $34.68 per share. Current price $35.66

The AT&T shares went from $34.68 on purchase to $36.00 when my sell order kicked in This is a gain of $1.32 per share which results in a net gain of $396.

I'm going to pull my buy at $35.50 order and leave the cash on hand for now $10,800

3) YHOO - 38 shares - $1042.34 purchased 12/5/6 at $27.43 per share Current price $26.90

I'm still planning to sell this one once it hits $0.20 again!

The value of my portfolio now stands at: $20319.80 which means I have made $319.80.

I'm sitting on $10,800.10, what should I buy?

This may be a risk as the stock is trading quite high right now but... I'm going to go with Hasbro.

5) HAS - 399 shares - $10776.99 purchased 12/18/6 at $27.01 per share Current price $27.01

It might be late in the season to go after a game/toy manufacturer but I'm willing to make that gamble. I tend to believe that October is the time to get in on stocks that benefit greatly from the holiday season, let's see if I can at least squeeze some cash out of this one. In fact, I'll place a sell order at $27.51 on this stock. That would make me just shy of $200 on the deal.

I now have $23.11 left.

Investing December 15th, 2006 by HMTKSteve

This is the December 15, 2006 update.

It is now Day six and here is where the stocks sit:

1) INTC - 405 shares - $8444.25 purchased 12/11/6 at $20.84 per share. Current price $20.92

The INTC shares went from $20.84 on purchase to $20.92. This is a gain of $0.08 per share which results in a net gain of $32.40.

Sadly (for me) AMD shares have already hit a high of $23 today. I sold mine a few days ago for $21.09 at a loss of $100. If I had kept them and sold at $23 I would not have lost the $100 but instead would have made $664! The stock market is all about timing. I was betting on the AMD/Nvidia price fixing issue to last a few more days but some other good news about the ATI merger came out and the stock jumped.

2) T - 300 shares - $10404 purchased 12/5/6 at $34.68 per share. Current price $35.62

The AT&T shares went from $34.68 on purchase to $35.62. This is a gain of $0.87 per share which results in a net gain of $282.

I'm still aiming to sell at $36 and buy back at $35.50.

3) YHOO - 38 shares - $1042.34 purchased 12/5/6 at $27.43 per share Current price $26.97

The Yahoo shares went from $27.43 on purchase to $26.97. This is a loss of $0.46 per share! Which results in a net loss of $17.48.

Yahoo is slowly crawling out of the whole it fell into after I purchased it. I expect it to continue crawling out of this whole!

4) IQWB - 58 shares - $9.28 purchased 12/11/6 at $0.16 per share Current price $0.10

The IQWB shares went from $0.16 on purchase to $0.15. This is a loss of $0.01 per share which results in a net loss of $0.58.

I'm still planning to sell this one once it hits $0.20 again!

The value of my portfolio now stands at: $20192.26 which means I have made $192.26.

I guess I should not have bailed on AMD stock the way I did, or I should have stuck with my original plan of buying AMD stock after it fell a few more points! Wednesday would have been the optimal time to buy back the AMD stock as it closed at $20.17!

If I had purchased the stock back at $20.17 I would have been able to buy 419 shares and to then sell them at $23 I would have made $1185.77! It's all about timing...

Investing December 14th, 2006 by HMTKSteve

This is the December 14, 2006 update.

It is now Day six and here is where the stocks sit:

1) INTC - 405 shares - $8444.25 purchased 12/11/6 at $20.84 per share. Current price $20.70

The INTC shares went from $20.84 on purchase to $20.70. This is a loss of $0.14 per share which results in a net loss of $56.70.

2) T - 300 shares - $10404 purchased 12/5/6 at $34.68 per share. Current price $35.55

The AT&T shares went from $34.68 on purchase to $35.55. This is a gain of $0.87 per share which results in a net gain of $261.

3) YHOO - 38 shares - $1042.34 purchased 12/5/6 at $27.43 per share Current price $26.60

The Yahoo shares went from $27.43 on purchase to $26.60. This is a loss of $0.83 per share! Which results in a net loss of $31.54.

4) IQWB - 58 shares - $9.28 purchased 12/11/6 at $0.16 per share Current price $0.10

The IQWB shares went from $0.16 on purchase to $0.13. This is a loss of $0.03 per share which results in a net loss of $1.74.

The value of my portfolio now stands at: $20,066.94 which means I have made $66.94.

I'm still ahead of the game, but not by much. I'm keeping my previous sell/buy order on the AT&T stock:

Sell at $36, buy back at $35.50

The penny stock is starting to pick up again. I'll sell it all if it hits $0.20.

One thing I am learning about penny stocks is that once the news comes out about them it is too late. You need to know about the stock before any news is printed. I'm beginning to wonder if those penny stock news sites are being put together by people who purchased the stock when it was new and cheap and are now trying to get foolish people to jump on it and buy it from them. Just a thought...

Investing December 13th, 2006 by HMTKSteve

This is the December 13, 2006 update.

It is now Day five and here is where the stocks sit:

1) INTC - 405 shares - $8444.25 purchased 12/11/6 at $20.84 per share. Current price $20.73

The INTC shares went from $20.84 on purchase to $20.73. This is a loss of $0.11 per share which results in a net loss of $44.55.

2) T - 300 shares - $10404 purchased 12/5/6 at $34.68 per share. Current price $35.64

The AT&T shares went from $34.68 on purchase to $35.64. This is a gain of $0.96 per share which results in a net gain of $288.

3) YHOO - 38 shares - $1042.34 purchased 12/5/6 at $27.43 per share Current price $26.75

The Yahoo shares went from $27.43 on purchase to $26.75. This is a loss of $0.68 per share! Which results in a net loss of $25.84.

4) IQWB - 58 shares - $9.28 purchased 12/11/6 at $0.16 per share Current price $0.10

The IQWB shares went from $0.16 on purchase to $0.10. This is a loss of $0.06 per share which results in a net loss of $3.48.

The value of my portfolio now stands at: $20,110.05 which means I have made $110.05.

All of my gains are from the purchase of the AT&T stock. If I had purchased only AT&T stock with my initial investment money I would have been able to purchase 576 shares. This would have given me a profit of $552.96 in less than a week. But, I didn't do that.

I feel that the AT&T stock may rise another dollar higher so I'm going to put a fictional "sell" order into my portfolio now. If T stock hits $36 I will sell it all. I will also put a fictional "buy" order in that if AT&T stock drops down to $35.50 AFTER I sell it I will buy it all back.

A common practice among traders, who are not full-time traders, is to leave orders for their brokers telling them at what price points they want to buy or sell their stock at. This enables you to sell at a predetermined price but not have to sit around watching the stock all day long.
