Thanks for putting that in the proper perspective. I was unaware that Blogger worked in that way.

That was a mistake on my part. I did pick five posts but, somewhere along the way formating got messed up and one of the links was erased.

I'm going to add the fifth one back in.

Thanks for pointing us over to surprisinger.com, loved the site and just added it to Google Reader. I also joined the Technorati contest. Keep up the great reviews and btw, the link to the Coinstar hack points back to this site.

Oh, to clear up your confusion...

Why would anyone want to help a big corporate blogging outfit profit on your work?...

Right off the bat I’m a bit confused. They have their own domain name but it looks like they are still hosted on Blogspot. Oh, my mistake, they are now hosted on Blogger! OK, what is the point of buying your own domain and using it with Blogger?

The deal here is that Blogspot and Blogger are the same thing (and owned by Google). Switching from the old domain to surprisinger.com takes advantage of a new Blogger feature that allows you to publish Blogspot blogs wherever you like (without having to tinker with FTP stuff, as was the case before). But the blog is still technically hosted by Blogger.

This is a good thing, from my vantage point, for a variety of reasons — among them: (1) Blogger/Blogspot doesn't ever try to profit from, or add advertising to, your blog (aside from the small Blogger logo); (2) I don't have to pay a dime in hosting fees, aside from the $10 I pay for a year's worth of my new customized URL; (3) my blog never suffers the "Digg effect," or anything like it, no matter how many hits I'm getting; and (4) the $10 domain, purchased through Google Apps, comes with 100MBs in hosting, with no stated restrictions on bandwidth!

In essence, setting up a blog in Blogger these days is not much different from using WordPress. Plus, I find Blogger to have a better, quicker, simpler interface (while still allowing for plenty of customization).

Thank you for the kind review. Everyone here at T.A.M.S.Y.H.Q. is extremely flattered, especially me.

We just hope you don't mean it as an insult that our top five posts are only four posts. I'm going to assume the posts you didn't mention are in a 500-way tie for #5.
