You brought back many memories with this post. I only went out and bought Nintendo power when I couldn’t figure the game out. Thank goodness that wasn’t often.

Some achievements really motivate the gamer to do well and play on but some are just number based like in the 80’s ‘High Score’ objective in almost all games and don’t really hold interest in today’s gamers. For example, in the recent Mafia 2 DLCs, the objectives are so stupid and the only achievements are style points.

This is a great post. As being an 80’s kid gamer, I too could not convince my parents to get me the Nintendo Power Mag. Thank goodness the gaming industry has come a long way since then. So I am guessing you were a Nintendo person not a Sega Kid. I was definitely a Nintendo Fan! up up down down left right left right b a select start.

lol ‘Nintendo Power Magazine’….classic. I remember only the rich kids would have a subscription. For us poor folk, we were stuck going to the drug store and quickly writing down a secret or two before a clerk asks us if we intend on buying anything.

Achievements are a great way to extend a game’s life. I don’t pay much attention to the achievements these days. Once in a while one will pop up on my xbox and I will get a bit of a laugh out of what they classify as an achievement.

I have old Polaroids of some of my games from the 80’s wow I forgot all about that, but I love your Rick roll Achievement. That should put you in the hall of fame for real.

I remember back in the early 90s me and my cousins were really into playing Mortal Kombat, and yeah the had the Nintendo Power magazine in order to get some of the fatality moves, etc :D And Yes I like achievements in games too.

It is really a great thought with have a nice instruction about gamers valued achievements.but what games should i rent around christmas that has no online achievements and 1000 gp. I plan on getting king kong and tmnt to rent any other games..
