Near the end of TWiT 77 Leo made a few candid comments about the failed Digg acquisition by News Corp. I know Jay Adelson has said that Digg is not for sale on forbes.com but...Leo: The thing about digg, which is really sad, is that uh, you know Murdoch o

I'd say it might also have something to do with the fact that digg is voted by the audience, and at the moment 66% of people disapprove of the republicans...

They are definitely buying the users, which for a community as fickle as the digg community, it would be a really bad move... There's no sense of community i've ever seen on digg, so i doubt people have too much real loyalty when it came down to it...

You can also install a fully functional digg like site in about half an hour...

David,
I was just looking at your website and at first glance I thought I was looking at a site styled after Digg.
There are many Digg-clones on the web right now. I feel most Web 2.0 purchases are about the users (eyeballs) rather than the technology.
As a percentage of registered users the liberals may be low but, I have found that most anti-republican stories get to the front page while pro-republican stories get buried. This may be a temporary case of partisans invading Digg for the purposes of influencing the 2006 elections. We will know more after the election.

The problem with Digg is that any site can easily recreate the services digg offers. Why should Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft buy the service when they can simply follow Netscape's footsteps and recreate the service?
Also, I disagree with your suggestion that Digg is largely populaced by liberals. While this may be true to some extent, I left Slashdot for Digg, and have found the articles as well as feedback much more balanced in tone than that on Slashdot.

If Digg got aquired by News Corp, this comic shows the kind of digging they'd be doing:
