Every three to six months Google does a big update to their Page Rank system. This is the system that all those SEO people worship, and with good reason. Having a high Google Page Rank means that Google will give more weight to your website when a search is run.

Up until a few months ago my web site had a Google Page Rank of 0 with some areas having a Page Rank of 3. Now I am sitting at a Google Page Rank of 5!

I have been noticing a change in PR coming for some time now. Nearly 75% of the traffic that comes to my blog now comes from Google searches. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

Good:

  • New people seeing my blog
  • High ranking on search results

    Bad:

  • Repeat visitors are a smaller portion of visitors
  • Too much reliance on one source (Google) for my traffic

    With some work I can now focus this blog more towards what people are coming here to read. I can use the Google search information to better cater to my audience. At this point, now that I have exposure, it is all up to me to keep the content good and the Page Rank high.
