I've had problems in the past with iTunes and podcast files, but now I'm angry.
I can deal with having to set all of my podcasts to start at 00:01 to avoid the iPod crash problem but I can not stand having to force my iPod to load a podcast file!
I have re-formated my iPod multiple times now and this is still happening!

Here we have my iTunes window open. I'm looking at my "recently added" section and I've just completed changing all of the podcasts to start at 00:01 to avoid the problem of my iPod crashing. Everything looks good so I'll select these podcasts and drag/drop them onto my iPod.

My screen cap did not catch it but, over the highlighted iPod item is a crossed out circle. iTunes does not want to let me copy the files over to my iPod! So I have no choice but to take the two files I wanted to copy and copy them to my desktop.

|

|
Now I am dragging those same two files back into iTunes to put them directly onto my iPod. iTunes accepts this and the files transfer to my iPod. I takes a few minutes for the transfer to go through.
|
|

|
If you look up on top you will see the status window is telling us that two files are being transferred. Both of these files are podcast files, remember that.
|
 |
Hey? Where are my two new podcast files? Why are they not listed as a podcast??? Did they even transfer over???
|
 |
There they are... In the recently added listing and that is the ONLY place they show up! Not in the music are. Not in the podcast area. They only show up in the temporary "recently added" area. What good is that? Once they are no longer "recently added" how do I find them? Not only that but, how do I get rid of them?

Hey, you’re duplicating too many files. Once I file is in iTunes, it’s stored in a folder in iTunes. You don’t need to copy these files to desktop; you already have them. I would just delete all the files from the podcasts you watched on your PC, then plug in your iPod. That should take them off your iPod. Then just resubscribe to the podcasts, download what you like, and plug in the iPod to transfer.
1) I do not allow iTunes to sync my computer to my iPod. My iPod is a 30GB model and my PC only has a 20GB drive. I keep music/podcasts on my iPod and delete them from my PC.
2) I am not moving the file back into iTunes, I’m dragging it directly to the iPod but I have to use iTunes so that the iPod firmware will update the db file on the iPod and thereby give me access to the file.
This problem has been going on for some months now, even when I set the iPod to auto-sync some files do not sync.
i have a 30gig video and have auto sync .my comp has a 40 gig so i delete files too after i sync them. as long as you ignore the warnings of missing files they stay on the ipod.its when you start messing with itunes that you lose them
I had this issue recently too but was able to figure it out. Plug in your iPod and select the iPod from the list on the left column, you should then see the sync main window and at the top of that window are categories for syncing. There is a tab labeled podcasts, select that tab and then select to sync all podcasts; this will then create a separate podcast folder on the iPod with all your podcasts listed.
I hope that helps. :)
hey thanks. i forgot about that option. all my new podcasts were going to recently added. except the subscribed ones from long ago
I had the same problem, and this solution fixed it for me. Thanks for posting!
No, even with it set to autosync my podcast files some files were not synced!
At least I’m not crazy… I’ve had this problem too. Even worse, iTunes doesn’t show me a “Recently Added” folder for my iPod (6GB mini), so if I manually add a podcast from the file system, I have no way to remove it from the iPod. It’s only visible in the playlist where I dropped it, but deleting it from there only changes the playlist… I have a couple orphaned files on my iPod already. (I’m using iTunes 7.0.1.8 on Windows.)
Back in iTunes, I removed such a file from the podcast list and tried to manually add it back to iTunes, using the “File/Add File To Library…” menu item, but that just silently failed. It wasn’t visible anywhere in iTunes. Apparently there’s just something about *some* MP3’s (I’ve only seen this for podcast subscriptions) that makes iTunes not want to acknowledge the file.
I did find a workaround, but it’s such a pain as to be almost worthless: Open the .mp3 file in Audacity (some other audio editor would probably work too) and save it out again. I was then able to manually add the file to iTunes, where it appears with the music files. I can see it normally on both the iPod and iTunes, but it’s no longer treated as a podcast.
same problem and getting crazy!!!!!!!
help!!!
Same problem here, just happened for the first time. My podcasts show up in my playlists but not under the general Podcast directory. wtf?????
Some of my podcasts will not sync to my 80gb ipod, i dont no why, can anybody help me?
Same thing happened to me, but I unplugged the ipod and plugged it back in again, and the files ended up being synced and it all worked. Although, in the ipod podcast section, it says the number 2 even though there are three and it shows three, but I got them on, so that’s all I’m hoping for…
rory, although it was back in july when you asked, I can answer you. writing for XP. at first you set sync on manually when you have connected your ipod. then you go into the podcast tab of itunes. there you have a choice between syncing ALL podcasts or just the marked ones. if set to ALL you get synced all the podcasts you subcribed to. but take care that you also select “show all” podcasts, not just the latest or something else. I’m just having the same problems when I started with podcasts in itunes ver. 7.4 etc. a last hint: look into the folder of your disk where you store the music files etc. there you find a sub-directory podcasts and even one called downloads during the download period.
This helped me today; thanks
Thanks Davina for your tip.
