1408 - a new movie from Stephen King
There is a new movie coming out based on a Stephen King Book and it is the 1408 Movie.
Starring two of my favorite actors; John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, this movie takes place in a haunted hotel run by Samuel L. Jackson's character.
The synopsis of the story is simple. John Cusack's character is a horror novelist who only believes what he can see with his own eyes. He has been writing books discrediting the paranormal and his next book is intended to discredit the haunted hotel. He plans to spend ten nights in the haunted hotel but can he even survive one?
I'm a fan of Stephen King books and some of his movies. I find the movies based on short stories always translate best. The longer stuff such as The Stand and Tommyknockers do not survive the cutting room floor and end up terrible. This one looks like it will be good. Because this is based off of the short story 1408 I have no doubt that it will make a good transition to the silver screen.
I can't remember the last real good horror movie I saw. Some might say that the third Star Wars prequel was a horror movie due to some bad acting but, I digress. To me, a good horror movie has to have a few things:
- What good horror needs
- Good actors
- Good story
- Simple plot
- A chance it could really happen
With this movie we have all of the above and I can't help buy be reminded of the effect Jaws had on me as a kid. Heck, I still don't want to go back in the water! Will this one make me not want to stay in a hotel?
Besides, it has Samuel L. Jackson in it! He's the reason people went to see the Star Wars prequels.
Watch the trailer and then take a look at the website for the 1408 Movie. The movie comes out on June 22, 2007.
So what do the rest of you think?

I’m looking forward to it because I’m a Stephen King fanatic, but sadly I heard the movie wasn’t too great. It won’t stop me though.
What have you heard? The trailer looks good.
Oh yeah, the trailer looks awesome, but the film festivals (my memory is rusty as I read the neg reviews over a month ago, but I think that was the place it was viewed) said it just didn’t work out. I’m hoping otherwise as I’m tired of King’s great stories turning out as such crap movies.
Awesome! I love both Cusack and Samuel Jackson. I’ll definitely be seeing it. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it before now… that probably doesn’t bode well for it’s performance at the box office.
